Vinco Group granted planning permission to build apartments on former care home site in South Liverpool
The Vinco Group has been granted planning permission to build 57 luxury apartments in South Liverpool.
The £10 million scheme will involve extending and converting a former care home on Alexandra Drive into 15 apartments. Its stable block will be demolished and replaced with a four-storey building comprising 42 apartments.
The site falls into the Lark Lane conservation area and architects Falconer Chester Hall aimed to design a scheme which “contributes to the local area yet adds a modern building of architectural merit”. Zerum acted as planning consultants on the scheme.
The new build, four-storey building is designed to match the rhythm of the surrounding properties and offers residents parking and cycle storage with a gym and steam room on the ground floor with a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments above.
The former care home, which was built in the 1870s has been extended over the years to become one of the largest surviving houses of its era in the area. The proposals brought forward from the Vinco Group will retain interior features such as leaded windows, opulent plasterwork ceilings and wood panelling and integrate them into the new two and three-bedroom apartments and two-bedroom duplexes.
“We’re delighted that councillors have shared in our vision to save the best of the heritage of this site and add a real contemporary twist,” says Vinco managing director Glyn Thomas.
“This scheme will bring new people to the area to support local goods and services and provide real quality new-build stock to this popular local market. It will also save a building of real heritage value and make it a truly beautiful place for people to live.
“This is the first of a number of schemes we will be bringing forward this year so we’re off to a good start.”
Work is due to start on site in March and marketing of the apartments will commence in Autumn.
