Permission granted for new homes in Pity Me
County Durham Housing Group has secured application to build six two-bed and two three-bed “affordable” homes at Folly Terrace in Pity Me.
The new properties will be available for “affordable” rent and are intended to contribute towards the group’s ambition to develop much needed homes across the county.
Work is now underway to appoint a building contractor for the scheme, it said.
Building works are expected to get underway this spring, with an early 2018 target date set for overall completion.
Kate Abson, the housing group’s senior manager for regeneration and commercial activities, said: “Permission to build affordable homes for rent in this particular location, which is so close to Durham city centre, is fantastic news.
“This is one of many new build projects we have in development at the moment as we aim to provide homes for a range of household needs.”
Most recently the group were awarded an allocation of £6.7 million from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) to build 195 homes across Durham by 2021. These 195 homes are in addition to the scheme at Pity Me.
