Permission granted for 40 new homes in Market Harborough

Consultants Andrew Granger & Co have secured planning permission for 40 new homes in Market Harborough, Leicestershire, which the firms says will help meet rising housing demand in the area.

Outline planning consent for the development on a greenfield site off Dunmore Road in Little Bowden was granted. The proposal was submitted by Andrew Granger & Co’s planning and development team working in conjunction with urban designers, engineering consultants and Harborough District Council.

The submission aimed to assist meeting the council’s target of delivering much-needed housing in sustainable locations around the edges of the market town.

Chris Green, one of Andrew Granger’s team of planners said: “A review of Harborough District Council’s housing supply over the next five year period has identified significant housing pressure across the district. In order for this pressure to be relieved, the council needs to consider development in sustainable locations such as Market Harborough.”

The project has had its challenges, the consultancy says, and original plans for 60 dwellings were replaced by a submission for 40 houses after discussion with the district council’s planning officer. The revised scheme was based on the results of a number of highways and flood risk surveys. The team at Andrew Granger & Co also worked closely with NODE Urban Design to provide a development that complemented the existing neighbouring housing as well as the adjacent Brampton Valley Way and the open countryside to the east.

“A greenfield site such as this often faces significant barriers to planning consent,” Green added. “However, due to the close proximity of a wide range of key services and sustainable transport links, as well as the shortfall in the council’s five year housing land supply, we felt that the site would be an ideal location for residential development.”
