Full house for the Housing Excellence Awards 2017

The Principal Hotel in Manchester city centre played host to this year’s Housing Excellence Awards, where the sector gathered to celebrate the extraordinary individuals and organisations striving to make a difference in the world of housing.

Martin Roberts, property, travel and lifestyle TV presenter and journalist, hosted the event, now in its 14th year, which was attended by over 400 people and sponsored by A. Connolly, Bowsall, Building Careers UK, Fortem, Housing Contact, Housing Partners, Keepmoat, Manifest Software Solutions, Mulbury Homes, Seddon and The Vinden Partnership.

Guests were entertained by award-winning comedian, actress and director Nina Conti and the evening was rounded off with an aftershow party in Copper Face Jacks with live music from 5-piece band, Milo Max, who gave guests the chance to sing with a live rock band with their Bandeoke experience. A silent auction and prize draw raised just under £2,000 for  The Christie, the largest single site cancer centre in Europe.

“Through all the turmoil, drama and the unexpected twists of the last few years one thing has remained constant in the midst of change – and that is the housing sector’s willingness to embrace that change, and meet uncertainty head on,” said Michelle Gordon, managing editor at Excel Media Solutions and editor of Housing magazine.

“Despite the increasingly tough environment, the sector continues to fight the good fight and carry on with its mission to provide quality affordable housing for ordinary people.

“Housing providers are increasingly expanding their remit to tackle wider issues; more than ever they are finding common cause with other public, private and charitable bodies to build powerful partnerships for change. And they continue to explore the boundaries, identifying where and how they can do more.

“Celebrating all this is what the Housing Excellence Awards are all about – highlighting the activities and the achievements of the organisations and the individuals that are at the heart of the social housing industry.”
