CALA Homes gets green light for Dunbar housing development

CALA Homes has been given the green light for a new housing development near Belhaven in Dunbar, East Lothian.

Plans to build 90 homes on the Beveridge Row site were approved convincingly, subject to provision of a permanent vehicular access onto Beveridge Row.

 

A quarter of the homes, which range from two-bedroom to five-bedroom properties, will be affordable. The scheme will include detached family homes, cottage style apartments and terraced units.

 

Craig Lynes, land director at CALA Homes (East), said: “We have worked in dialogue with the planning officials, offering additional clarity around technical, landscape and design matters throughout the processing of the application.

 

“We are now delighted to see the site get the go-ahead – and the boost to the housing supply as a result will benefit buyers across the local market, as it will also free up the homes of local people moving into the development.”

 

Approval secures financial contributions for enhancement to Dunbar Grammar School and West Barns Primary School while CALA has pledged improvements to footways on Edinburgh Road to ensure pupils have a safer route to school.

 

The plans, which have been adapted following public consultations, include a belt of mature trees along its eastern edge to minimise any visual impact on existing properties, along with areas of open space, a play area and a village green.

 

The timeline for development is still to be confirmed, however, work could start on site in spring this year with the first homes complete in early 2018.
