Blackpool Coastal Housing scores a first in gas safety certification
Blackpool Coastal Housing (BCH) has become the first social housing landlord in the country to receive Gas Safety Management Certification from Capita Gas Compliance Services (CGCS).
CGCS certification is recognised by national accreditation body UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service); serving as a benchmark of best practice and confirming that legal gas safety standards are met.
BCH manages nearly 5,000 properties on behalf of Blackpool Council. The certification required compliance in key areas. Gas safety management systems, policies and procedures were reviewed to ensure that customers are safeguarded from potential incidents. On-site assessments covered supervision policies and the standards of gas work undertaken.
In addition, BCH had to demonstrate that its services are being delivered efficiently and provide value-for-money.
Mark Shepley, BCH’s services manager, said: “We are proud that we are the first social housing landlord to achieve this accreditation. It demonstrates that BCH and our gas contractor are providing a service on-site that is in line with industry best practice. Residents can have peace of mind that our gas work meets the highest quality and safety standards and has gone through rigorous and impartial third party review.”
The certification is valid for three years, with a six month review followed by annual assessments.
