Basildon council approves Sempra Homes’ Laindon scheme

Basildon Council has given the go-ahead for proposals to build nine new homes on an underused site in Laindon.

At a meeting of its planning committee, an application brought forward by Sempra Homes, the council’s wholly owned house building company, was approved for a housing development in Pound Lane Central, Laindon.

The development, which will provide a total of nine new homes, will consist of two two-bedroom houses, five two-bedroom apartments and two one-bedroom apartments.

It will also have a communal garden and a dedicated bin store, as well as 17 parking spaces and a secure cycle store. All of the homes will be made available for shared ownership.

Melanie Keys, manager of Sempra Homes, said: “These homes will be made available as shared ownership and will provide opportunity for residents to own a share in a property and pay an affordable rent on the remainder, with the option of buying more shares and eventually owning 100%. This will enable residents who would otherwise be unable to access the housing market to purchase a home of their own.”

Scott Logan, chairman of Sempra Homes said: “I am delighted that this scheme has been given planning permission and look forward to bringing these homes to the market.”
