13% increase in properties presented at auctions over past 12 months says Edward Mellor
A growing number of house sellers across the North West are choosing to put their properties ‘under the hammer’ with demand for auctions growing according to estate agents and property auctioneers Edward Mellor Ltd.
The firm, with 11 branches dotted across Manchester and Cheshire, recorded a 13% increase in the number of properties presented at their auctions in 2016 compared to 2015 with the amount of money raised for clients increasing by 10% to £29.5 million.
Edward Mellor MD Colin Mellor said: “More and more people are recognising the convenience and simplicity of selling their properties through auctions. It’s no longer the choice of last resort but a real option for homeowners and landlords wanting a ‘hassle free’ way of selling their properties.
“There’s also growing evidence that people opting to use an auction house can make as much, if not more on the sale of their property and the feedback I’m getting from the industry as a whole reflects this trend.
“TV programmes like ‘Homes Under the Hammer’ have certainly increased awareness and, based on initial figures from our 2017 auctions, we fully expect to see similar growth over the course of this year”.
